Mer nederlandsk fokus på Cree - Feyenoord gjorde rett i å selge ham... Samtidig sees han på som potensiell verdensklasse
FEYENOORD COACH MAKES ‘WORLD CLASS’ CLAIM ABOUT LEEDS’ CRYSENCIO SUMMERVILLE
Dan Owen Fri 31 March 2023 11:00, UKEredivisie leaders Feyenoord were ‘right’ to sell Crysencio Summerville even as the winger goes from strength to strength in the Premier League at Leeds United.
That is according to Richard Grootscholten; head of Feyenoord’s academy from 2016 to 2019, and a man who knows the Elland Road starlet like the back of his hand.
21-year-old Summerville rose through the ranks at De Kuip. But, despite shining at youth level, he never made a single league appearance before being sold for a fee of £1.3 million during the summer of 2020.
“Gosh, what a talent. (The talent) really dripped from him,” Grootscholten remembers, via RTV Rijnmond .
“Everyone saw that he had talent. There were so many matches that he decided. We played against Real Madrid in a (youth team) final in Zagreb, with Dirk Kuyt as coach.
“He single-handedly decided that with a world-class goal. He was so decisive.”
Summerville, Grootscholten adds, struggled with behavioural issues at Feyenoord. Problems which, he says, may have played a part in his eventual sale, even after an impressive loan spell at ADO Den Haag in the 2018/19 season.
“There were some problems with him a number of times,” Grootscholten explains. “Feyenoord decided to loan him out and sell him later.
“At a certain point, there is a sum (you have to accept). PSV had that with Memphis Depay. And I think that is right (that Feyenoord sold him).
“I am not surprised that he is (impressing in the Premier League) now.”
Summerville, alongside fellow youngster Wilfried Gnonto, has been a ray of sunlight piercing through the dark clouds hanging over Elland Road. Only Rodrigo Moreno has scored more than his four Premier League goals in 2022/23.
One of those was a late winner away at Liverpool shortly before the Qatar World Cup.
“In all the games he played he’s shown a good level,” Leeds coach Javi Gracia tells Leeds Live.
“Sometimes he’s played from the beginning. In other games he’s made the difference in the minutes he played (off the bench).
“Against Wolves (in the recent 4-2 win), he made the pass for Rodrigo to score the last goal. Important things for the team. And, with the quality, he has I am sure he is going to help the team.
Summerville will be in contention during Saturday’s trip to Premier League leaders Arsenal.
