McCLAREN BACKS LENNON TO SHINE

England coach Steve McClaren is confident Aaron Lennon has the experience to handle the pressure of next week's crucial Euro 2008 clash with Israel.
Lennon is tipped to fill the problematic left-sided midfield berth when England head to Tel Aviv looking to revive their hopes of reaching next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland.
McClaren has earmarked Lennon for a starring role in his new-look squad ever since the Tottenham man sparkled on the World Cup stage in Germany.
Unfortunately, illness and injury have limited the 19-year-old to just three substitute appearances for his country since McClaren succeeded Sven-Goran Eriksson as coach.
But now, if a knock to the knee suffered in Spurs' UEFA Cup win over Braga on Wednesday night - which was due to be assessed on Thursday morning - does not prove serious, McClaren is ready to let Lennon loose.
England need at least a draw in Israel to maintain a realistic hope of qualifying and McClaren is convinced the Leeds-born star has the ability to cause problems to the most solid of defences.
"Aaron came into the World Cup squad and excited us from day one," said McClaren.
"He still has a long way to go but he has a lot of potential and we expected to see a lot more of him this season than we actually have because of illness and injuries.
"We need experience in this game but he has been to a World Cup, so I have no hesitation putting him into my squad."

Mac backs dodgy Robbo
PAUL ROBINSON has been handed a massive vote of confidence by England chief Steve McClaren.
The Tottenham keeper has already been picked for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifier in Israel on March 24.
Robbo is expected to be fit for international duty, even though he missed last night’s UEFA Cup game for Spurs with a hamstring injury.

Ritchie the Likely Candidate at Huddersfield
Huddersfield couldn’t have picked a better time to be looking for a new manager. True, there are two other League One clubs looking to put someone in charge â€" Bradford and Rotterham â€" yet neither of these two clubs has the financial stability that Huddersfield would be able to offer the prospective manager. At the same time, they’re blessed with a good number of young managers who are looking for work. Of these, it would seem that Andy Ritchie is the favourite to take over. His promotion with Barnsley to the Championship seems to have captured the imagination of the Huddersfield board. But, if that’s the case, more consideration should be given to Phil Parkinson who took Colchester up and laid the foundations of the side that is doing so well this year. Then there’s Kevin Blackwell. The former Leeds boss has been applying for any job going but will struggle to get one because his career has been tainted with the disappointing season he had this year. There will also be doubts in some minds on how he would manage at a club where finances are very much restricted. The quick-fire dismissal of Jackson would indicate that the board don’t have a successor lined up. Which is probably good news for Gerry Murphy. The Academy Chief has been put temporarily in charge and debuted with an encouraging 2-0 win at Watford. More results like that and the job could be his on a permanent basis.

Bradford boss: no move for ex-Leeds star
David Wetherall has ruled out signing central defender Paul Butler.
The experienced former Leeds United skipper is a free agent after leaving MK Dons because of the distance involved in travelling from his Yorkshire home.
"It's news to me and I don't know where they got that from at all," said Wetherall.
"We're not short in the centre-half department and we won't be after him.
"But I am looking around before the deadline next week and just missed out on a couple of players today.
"I would like to add one or two before the door closes if at all possible - but if I don't, then fine we'll just get on it."

Clemence blasts Robinson critics

Clemence is backing Robinson to overcome his error in Croatia

England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence has hit out at critics who claim Tottenham's Paul
Robinson should not be his country's number one.
Robinson was widely blamed for the airshot which sealed England's 2-0 defeat in Croatia last year.
But Clemence said: "The criticism he's received has gone on for far too long. He deserves to be in the side."

Oster has been overlooked despite impressive form for Reading

Oster, 28, is one of a select few Welsh players with a Premiership club, but he has been omitted from the squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Donny do loan deal for Danny
Doncaster Rovers have signed Leicester City striker Danny Cadamarteri on a month's loan.
Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll has seen his strikeforce decimated by injury and Cadamarteri's arrival is a welcome boost.
The former Everton forward has also played for Fulham (loan), Sheffield United, Leeds and Bradford and Conference outfit Grays.
Cadamarteri, 27, joined the Foxes late in 2006 and has so far made seven substitute appearances, scoring once in the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Fulham.
He is set to make his debut in Saturday's League One clash at home to Cheltenham.

Wright moves on loan to Forest
Nottingham Forest have signed defender Alan Wright on loan from Sheffield United until the end of the season.
The veteran left-back, who has recently been on loan at Doncaster, goes into the squad to face Gillingham this weekend.
Forest boss Colin Calderwood, who played with Wright at Aston Villa, told his club's official website: "Alan will bring a lot of qualities to the group.
"He has played most of his career at the highest level and also knows what is required to be part of promotion-winning squads."
Wright, 35, had spells at Championship clubs Cardiff and Leeds earlier in the season.

Boro boy who would like to reign in Spain
Jonathan Woodgate thinks hard for a moment. For a top-class competitor in his 28th year, the question doesn't appear to be as easy as it sounds: what has been the biggest game of his career so far? After a while, the answer dribbles out.
"Haven't really had one, have I?" he concludes. "There was my England debut I suppose. That's a big day for anyone. Apart from that, though, I've never got further than a semi-final."
It's a sobering reality, even for someone as laid back as Woodgate, who seems to have tackled his injury-cursed career in as good-natured a mood as you could possibly expect.

There were worrying moments for the home side in the 28th minute when Folan, who was called up by Ireland for the first time last week, was stretchered off after an accidental clash with Carlos Bocanegra.
Folan appeared to have fallen awkwardly on his right ankle and was immediately replaced by Henri Camara, although early indications were he had suffered nothing more than bruising.

Warnock reveals Hulse blow
Neil Warnock feels Rob Hulse will be sidelined for a long time after revealing it is likely he has suffered a double fracture to his ankle.
The striker was stretchered off following an accidental collision with Chelsea keeper Petr Cech during Sheffield United's 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The reaction of the players suggested it was a bad injury and Warnock is not positive, but has backed Hulse to bounce back.
"He's had a great season," Warnock told Sky Sports. "But it is going to take some recovering.
"It looks like a double fracture and it puts things into perspective.
"I don't know the ins and outs, but it is a bad injury.
"He will bounce back, but it gives others the chance."
