Enig!

Leeds supporter = Bipolar lidelse? ? ?

Southampton 1 Leeds 0

Alan Thompson was sent off and Bradley Wright-Phillips scored a late Southampton winner as Leeds hit the self-destruct button in their bid to avoid relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship.
Midfielder Thompson was shown a straight red card in the 32nd minute after wrestling with Southampton's Jhon Viafara, prompting angry scenes at St Mary's with stewards keeping furious Leeds players apart from referee Tony Bates.
Wright-Phillips then climbed off the bench to settle a one-sided encounter and keep Saints' slim play-off hopes alive, while shoving Leeds another step closer to League One.
The team which six years ago this week qualified for the Champions League semi-final remain in the drop zone, and will need to take something from their two remaining games to avoid looking a decent bet for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy semis next season.
Leeds were without centre-half Lubomir Michalik, who this week returned to Bolton, and looked shaky at the back in the opening moments when crosses from Viafara and Chris Baird whistled across the penalty area.
Inigo Idiakez then had a free-kick palmed out by Casper Ankergren and Kenwyne Jones blasted the rebound high and wide before Andrew Surman wriggled clear to cross for Grzegorz Rasiak, who was denied by Matt Heath's block.
Leeds won the corresponding fixture 4-3 last season after being 3-0 down at half-time, and at times looked intent on giving their injury-hit hosts a similar head-start with an edgy display.
Boss Dennis Wise - who was in that Saints line-up and was substituted at the interval - was relieved to see Rasiak waste a golden opportunity in the 21st minute when he headed Surman's dangerous cross over.
Fit-again skipper Claus Lundekvam then met Idiakez's free-kick with a bullet header which flew inches over the crossbar.
The match erupted in the 32nd minute when Thompson grabbed Viafara round the back of the neck as the Colombian went to collect the ball following a foul.
After a lengthy consultation with his linesman, referee Bates brandished the red card to reduce Leeds to 10 men.
Five bookings followed in quick succession as vendettas sprang up all over the pitch, before Jones got on the end of Rudi Skacel's cross and forced a smart save from Ankergren in first-half stoppage time.
Jones thought he had fired Saints ahead moments after the restart when he tucked away Skacel's long cross, but an offside flag brought an end to his celebrations.
The young striker headed straight at Ankergren before Surman hit the side-netting as the hosts piled forward.
Southampton were almost caught out by an overhead kick from Hayden Foxe midway through the second half, but the Australian's effort flew over.
Rasiak squandered two glorious chances with weak headers before Saints nearly fell to another sucker-punch, Pele bravely blocking Radostin Kishishev's goalbound shot.
But the goal finally came six minutes from time when Leeds failed to deal with a cross from fellow sub Djamel Belmabi and Wright-Phillips hooked the ball home via the underside of the crossbar.
Rasiak had the ball in the net again moments later, only to be denied by another offside flag, but Saints saw out a nervy final few minutes to leave Leeds in deep trouble.
After the final whistle police and stewards had to move in to separate rival fans who were hurling missiles at each other.

Late blow for Leeds leaves Wise fuming
Leeds face an anxious wait to discover their fate after falling to a goal six minutes from time, leaving Dennis Wise to dispute, as usual, the reason for a match-turning dismissal in the first half for Alan Thompson.
An ill-tempered affair was already brewing to the sort of incident which led to Thompson getting a red card from referee Tony Bates and two others yellow cards for an ugly clash just outside the Leeds penalty area. Thompson was seen to grab Southampton's Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones around the neck after Jones had reacted angrily to a foul on him. Referee Bates consulted an assistant before deciding Thompson should go and Southampton's Chris Baird and Radostin Kishishev were lucky to escape only with cautions.
Wise will lose the experienced Thompson for his team's final two matches of the season, at home to Ipswich and away to Derby. Wise believed Thompson had merely got involved as a peacemaker after around 10 players had become involved and the Leeds boss is convinced video evidence will reveal Baird to be the real culprit.
Wise, briefly caretaker manager at Southampton, said: 'I hope that everyone gets the chance to see the incident and it will show Baird punching Thompson. Alan got penalised for trying to calm things down, so I am not sure how the referee decided Thompson should go.
'The linesman was 50 yards away, so I am not sure he was any better placed. But when you lose a key player so early in the match, it is bound to have an effect.
'I am not going to personally criticise the referee because all it ever seems to do is cost me money. I think I am up on a charge at the FA next week and I don't want another trip to Lancaster Gate.'
Of greater concern to Wise must surely be the predicament Leeds find themselves in, with a drop into football's third tier for the first time still a strong possibility.
But as defiant as ever, Wise said: 'There will be a lot of chopping and changing at the bottom of the table in the next two games and we have to make sure we are not in the bottom three on the last day. The lads still believe and they gave me everything.'
Jones was more than a handful for the Leeds defence, revealing power in the air and an outstanding touch on the ground, but his finishing let Leeds escape until six minutes from the end. Leeds had little option but to defend in numbers and it was not until the 61st minute that they managed their first shot on target, a tame effort from David Healy which failed to trouble Southampton's under-used goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.
So worried were Leeds by Jones's dominance that after Thompson had gone, Wise sent on the durable Australian Hayden Foxe in place of Robbie Blake, a midfield player, to show the limitation of Leeds' ambition.
Southampton's pressure became ever more intense and in the last 20 minutes Leeds struggled to get the ball out of their half. So it was no surprise when Saints scored the goal that keeps alive their ambitions of a place in the Championship play-offs. Djamel Belmadi crossed from the right and in the chaos that followed, substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips scored with a close-range shot which went in off the underside of the bar.
Southampton deserved their winner, but they must win their last matches, at Norwich and at home to Southend, to stand a chance of finishing in the top six.
Manager George Burley said: 'I put Bradley on in the second half to give us an added threat on the right and I am pleased to say it paid off.
'Credit to Leeds - they never stopped fighting and made it difficult for us. This was an important win, but we have two games to go and we need to win them both. This game was tight and tense and once they were reduced to 10 men, Leeds put a lot of men behind the ball and made it difficult for us.'

Man of the match:
Kenwyne Jones
Leeds might dispute the choice because of his involvement in the sending-off, but they never overcame his threats. He was immense in the air and should have got on the score sheet more than once. Leeds never got to grips with him.

Southampton 1-0 Leeds

Bradley Wright-Phillips struck late on to keep Southampton's play-off hopes alive and leave Leeds deep in trouble.
Leeds' Alan Thompson saw red after 32 minutes after a clash with John Viafara, which saw angry players being kept apart by referee Tony Bates.
Wright-Phillips broke the deadlock with six minutes left, hooking home a cross from fellow substitute Djamel Belmadi.
Grzegorz Rasiak had the ball in the net after Wright-Phillips' strike, but it was ruled out for offside.

Southampton manager George Burley:
"We knew Leeds would be fighting for their lives and all credit to them, they made it difficult for us to break them down.
"But we kept at them, we put Bradley on the wing to give us some more finishing power and it paid off.
"I think we deserved it."

Leeds boss Dennis Wise on Thompson's sending off
"The linesman made the decision but he was 40 yards away.
"Thompson pulled Viafara away from Eddie Lewis because they were going to clash, and the officials misunderstood.
"I'm always talking about the refs, but they should be penalised."

Wise unhappy with officials
Leeds boss Dennis Wise was furious with the match officials, while Southampton manager George Burley was only worried about the result.
The Whites moved closer to the drop after the 10-men slipped to a 1-0 loss at The Saints thanks to Bradley Wright-Phillips' 84th minute winner.
Leeds found themselves up against it when Alan Thompson saw red in the first half and Wise felt Chris Baird should have been punished for starting the altercation.
"I hope everyone shows it and I hope they also show Chris Baird punching Alan Thompson in the face," blasted Wise. "The linesman has made the decision but he was 40 yards away.
"Alan Thompson has pulled Viafara away from Eddie Lewis because they were going to clash, and the officials have misunderstood the situation.
"They also missed Chris Baird punching Alan Thompson. We will be appealing against it, hopefully they'll change it but it won't change the result."
Saints boss Burley conceded he did not see the incident, but that if Baird had thrown a punch then he should have been dismissed as well.
"I didn't see it, it was off the ball. But the linesman was only five or 10 yards away," stated the Scot.
"I'm sure if Chris had thrown a punch he would have been sent off. Today was all about our result.
"If we didn't win our chances of finishing in the top six would be virtually over.
"We knew Leeds would be fighting for their lives and all credit to them, they made it difficult for us to break them down.
"But we kept at them, we put Bradley on the wing to give us some more finishing power and it paid off. I think we deserved it."

Wise rants at referee once again
Leeds boss Dennis Wise launched into a familiar tirade against the match officials after Alan Thompson was sent off at Southampton.
Thompson was shown a red card by referee Tony Bates in the 32nd minute after grabbing Jhon Viafara round the neck, but Wise was adamant Saints defender Chris Baird was the guilty party for throwing a punch at the Leeds midfielder.
The incident left Leeds with a mountain to climb, although they held out until six minutes from time when substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips hooked home a dramatic winner for the hosts.
"I hope everyone shows it and I hope they also show Chris Baird punching Alan Thompson in the face," said Wise.
"The linesman has made the decision but he was 40 yards away. Alan Thompson has pulled Viafara away from Eddie Lewis because they were going to clash, and the officials have misunderstood the situation.
"They also missed Chris Baird punching Alan Thompson. I'm waiting to go and see them but they like to get their stories straight so we have to wait and see. We will be appealing against it, hopefully they'll change it but it won't change the result.
"I'm always talking about the refs, it's all I've done since I came to Leeds. But they should be penalised, this is people's living and they need to look at themselves."
Saints boss George Burley took a diplomatic view of the incident, insisting: "I didn't see it, it was off the ball. But the linesman was only five or 10 yards away. I'm sure if Chris had thrown a punch he would have been sent off."
Wise also took a swipe at Bolton, who recalled key centre-half Lubomir Michalik from his loan spell on Friday and came on as a first-half substitute against Reading after Nicky Hunt had to go off.
"We got a phone call at 12pm on Friday saying they wanted to take him back, and then they just put him on the bench," he moaned.
Defeat leaves the once-mighty Whites staring at the drop down to League One, a point from safety after fourth-bottom Hull drew with Stoke.
Leeds withstood almost constant pressure on their goal, with Grzegorz Rasiak, Kenwyne Jones, Andrew Surman and Viafara all missing gilt-edged chances.
But Wright-Phillips climbed off the bench to tuck away fellow sub Djamel Belmadi's cross to shove Leeds another step closer to the drop.
"We've got to rely on other teams now as well as get our results right," added Wise. "But it can all change again next Saturday. After 84 minutes here we were fourth from bottom, it's a funny game. I think it's between us and Hull now."
The outlook is brighter for Saints, who are now up to seventh and still on course to gatecrash the play-offs with winnable remaining games against Norwich and Southend.
Results elsewhere again went in their favour, but Burley said: "It was all about our result. If we didn't win our chances of finishing in the top six would be virtually over.
"We knew Leeds would be fighting for their lives and all credit to them, they made it difficult for us to break them down.
"But we kept at them, we put Bradley on the wing to give us some more finishing power and it paid off. I think we deserved it."
