Leeds United: Grayson's relief over Beckford
Simon Grayson today described Leeds United's decision to keep Jermaine Beckford as a weight off his mind, insisting he had always hoped the club would avoid selling the striker.
Beckford's short-term future appears to have been resolved after he was taken off the transfer list at Elland Road, and United's coaching team are heading into the final three weeks of pre-season confident of retaining a player whose summer sale seemed inevitable in May.
A 3-1 victory over Glentoran, in which Beckford scored United's second goal, completed a two-match programme across the Irish Sea on Saturday, and Grayson is able to feel more comfortable about the final make-up of his squad barring a "ridiculous offer" arriving for Beckford.
The 39-year-old said: "When you look like you could be losing one of your best players, it's obviously going to be difficult to replace him. I never wanted to sell him anyway because when players score goals like he has over the last couple of years, you don't want to get rid of them."
Så får vi se, føler meg uansett ikke trygg før overgangsvinduet er spikret og stengt.
