Hartlepool boss gives Hereford hope

Should Hereford United manage to secure what would be a tremendous victory at Elland Road next Tuesday, the FA Cup draw has landed the Bulls another home draw.
However, the tie would be somewhat less glamorous one than the Leeds match was.
That's because the Bulls have been paired with Hartlepool United, after they thrashed Gainsborough Trinity 6-0 on Saturday.
Every pundit across the UK has already written off Hereford's chances in the Leeds replay, but Danny Wilson claims the Bulls could still swing the tie their way.
'I think it's a great draw.
'A lot of fans will be excited at the prospect of going to Leeds United, and I am sure they would travel there in big numbers'.
'You can't count your chickens, however.
'Leeds will be favourites to progress but Hereford will have something to say about that'.
Speaking to the Hartlepool Mail, Wilson insists he knows all about both clubs.
'The good thing for us is that we know both sides. We played Hereford last season and of course we have already been to Elland Road'.
The match is scheduled for December 1st or 2nd should the Bulls create another of their cup-upsets next Tuesday night!

Turner: 'Lets surprise Leeds'

The Hereford United boss Graham Turner remains in an upbeat mood ahead of Tuesday's FA Cup replay at Elland Road.
Despite the divisional gulf between the sides, the Bulls boss claims Hereford can take plenty of positives from the original tie at Edgar Street last week.
In an interview for the official Hereford United website, Turner insisted the Bulls could easily have seen off Leeds at the first time of asking:
'I thought it was a good performance. I thought we finished the game very strongly and should've won it in the last 15 minutes.
'I felt the players worked very hard. Leeds held onto the ball for longer periods at times, but when you look at chances and goalscoring opportunities - I thought we hade more, and perhaps on another day John McCombe's overhead kick in the last couple of minutes would have gone into the back of the net.
'It was a good effort. We caught them out. He wasn't offside. So I think the overall belief in the dressing room was slightly elated, because we had performed well, but a little disappointed because we didn't finish them off'.
Turner has also taken heart from the apparent downturn in form of the League One side at the moment.
Since drawing Hereford out of the hat in the FA Cup, Leeds' record has not been as hot as it was at the beginning of the campaign, with the Bulls boss hoping that may continue at Elland Road next Tuesday.
'There are some funny things going on at Leeds at the moment - they're not winning games.
'They've only won one out of their last four. Defeat at Carlisle, a win at Bournemouth, drawing here and then a defeat against Bury in the Johnstones Paint Trophy.
'People may dismiss that as not being important - but it is a defeat and there has been some upheaval there in the last month or so with the coach [Gus Poyet] leaving for Tottenham and new people coming in.
' I understand for Tuesday night they've got three players suspended so, little things like that gives us some hope that we can go up to Elland Road with the belief that it's not yet over'.
Over confidence is something that cup-upsets are often all about, with Hereford frequently forcing the issue when it matters.
'There is that feeling that perhaps Leeds think they've done the hard work.
'They are a good side. There is no doubt about that. You don't get the run of results they've had from the start of the season to now, without being a good side. It's not an accident. They've got a good team.
'But hopefully one or two little things are going in our favour, and hopefully we'll go up there and surprise them'.
However, Turner is under no illusions about the quality Leeds possess in abundance.
'Reports we've had is they like to play the ball a lot off their front players, and they are a handful.
'I noticed some of their comments after the game saying they were disappointed at the way in which the front two had played. But that's because I felt we dealt with them very well.
'John McCombe and Karl Broadhurst were playing very well until the injury, and as a partnership at the back they didn't give the Leeds front two very much room.
'Part of it was down to our ability, and I can understand why they were disappointed with their performance, but we did well that night - and we've still got a chance.
United will be without three defenders for the match at Elland Road, with the Hereford supremo working hard to bring in further cover in the shape of Lee Collins from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
'Karl [Broadhurst] will be looking to come back in three weeks time. He's turned his ankle and damaged ligaments, so we can more-or-less write him off for at least 3 weeks.
'Dean Beckwith is making good progress. I've watched him in training over the last week or so, and he's joined in with everything. And with the physical work he's done on his own he won't be too far off a return.
'It might be too soon for him at Leeds, but looking ahead to the Accrington match he could be in contention by then.
'With Trent McClenahan being in Australia and with two central defenders being injured, we've taken a Wolves youngster - Lee Collins - on loan for a month'.

Youngster Collins seals Bulls move

Wolves' versatile defender Lee Collins has joined Hereford on loan to ease manager Graham Turner's defensive headaches
The 19-year-old is capable of playing either full-back or centre-back and has joined up with the Bulls on an initial one-month deal.
He will provide much-needed cover for sidelined defensive duo Karl Broadhurst and Dean Beckwith while full-back Trent McClenahan is also currently away representing Australia Under-23's.
Collins, who has yet to make his first-team debut for Wolves, is eligible to play in Saturday's League Two encounter with Stockport.

Bulls must take their bid for glory to Elland Road

HEREFORD United will be heading for Leeds United's Elland Road stadium for the first time ever next Tuesday looking to add another glorious chapter to their FA Cup history.
The sides shared a goalless draw at Edgar Street in their first round tie last Friday but the Bulls will certainly not be overawed in the replay after giving as good as they got on home territory.
Before that, however, United face a journey to Stockport County on Saturday when they will be looking to cement their hold on second place in League 2.
With skipper Karl Broadhurst set to be sidelined for three weeks after damaging ankle ligaments against Leeds and Dean Beckwith, although back in full training, unlikely to be risked, boss Graham Turner has some defensive headaches.
But the Bulls boss has acted to shore up the back line, which will also be missing Trent McClenahan who is on international duty with Australia under-23, by bringing in 19-year-old Lee Collins from Wolves.
"He can play either at centre-back or at right-back and will be with us for a month," said Turner, who added that Robbie Threlfall's loan from Liverpool is for three months and not a single month as originally planned.
Collins will not, however, be eligible for the cup tie at Leeds.
There is also a slight doubt over striker Theo Robinson.
"Theo has missed a couple of training sessions and has an ongoing ankle problem but we expect him to be fit for Saturday," said Turner.
Leeds, meanwhile, suffered their first home defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 to Bury in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy on Tuesday evening.
And United received a boost as a red card for Filipe Da Costa and yellows for Jonathan Douglas and David Prutton mean that the trio will be ruled out of the clash with the Bulls.
United are selling tickets for the Leeds cup tie from the club offices where coach tickets to the match are also available.
Office hours have been extended until 7pm this evening (Thursday) especially for ticket sales.
Match tickets will, however, also be available at Elland Road on the night.

Ainsworth: Superb triple

Ainsworth hat-trick sinks Hatters

Lionel Ainsworth's superb hat-trick kept Hereford's promotion challenge on track after an impressive 3-2 win at Stockport.
Ainsworth, who had only one league goal to his name before kick-off, opened the scoring in the first-half before grabbing a second-half brace to make the game safe.
Hereford went in front just before the interval thanks to Ainsworth's superb individual effort. The midfielder skipped past a couple of defenders before chipping home a great shot from just outside the box.
He then made it 2-0 when he headed home a tempting cross from Theo Robinson, but County's Anthony Elding quickly reduced the arrears from the spot - his 10th goal of the season.
However, Ainsworth's coolly-taken third wrapped up a great day for him.
Visiting goalkeeper Wayne Brown punched into his own net late on, but his side held on for the three points.

Leeds shouldn't take the Bulls for granted

Despite Leeds defeating Swindon Town yesterday they shouldn't take the Bulls for granted. For Hereford United put in a powerful display yesterday and, at times, showed the footballing world how to play the beautiful game. The two goals Stockport scored were, perhaps, rather fortunate but Lionel Ainsworth's three goals were all well worked.
As for those Stockport goals, firstly the penalty might not have been awarded on another day by another referee and secondly, as the TV replays show, Wayne Brown was tightly surrounded by players when he unfortunately tipped Michael Rose's corner into the net.
Looking at today's papers there are various reports on Leeds 2-1 win over Swindon. Most are supportive of Leeds and how well they've done to date this season. But the Sunday Times reporter mentions their style of game which, in some eyes, is a little negative.
Dennis Wise’s formula for managerial success at this level is a simple one; assuming all other things to be roughly equal, fitness, organisation and power will make the difference. Their greatest supporter could not claim Leeds are passing their way out of this division, but few of their opponents are matching them for effort, application and conditioning.
The Independent report suggests the win wasn't convincing.
Leeds moved into the play-off positions with a slender triumph over Swindon at Elland Road yesterday.
Wise said: "I was pleased we got the result in what was a very tough game. Swindon work hard and I was disappointed with the sloppy goal we conceded."
Tuesday will be a great occasion for the players of Hereford United. Most of them will never have played at Elland Road, never have played at such a big stadium, and seldom gone into a game when, in reality, the result isn't over important.
They must go out there give it their best and enjoy the game and surroundings. And if they can get the ball down and play football, Dennis Wise and Leeds United might have to take note.
"I think we can go to Elland Road and enjoy it. I think if we can put on a display and show the same tempo of play when we are attacking we could cause them a few problems," said manager Graham Turner after yesterday's game as reported on the Official Site.
"It's another big game for us. The Birmingham game was another big one and at Leeds the ground is a 40,000 capacity and they do very well for fans," hat-trick Ainsworth told the Hereford Times.
"It should be a very good atmosphere and we are just going to enjoy going up there to play our football."

Ainsworth looks forward to Elland Road

FLYING winger Lionel Ainsworth is looking forward to Hereford United's FA Cup first-round replay with Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday.
The former Derby County youngster, who underlined his form yesterday with a hat-trick in the Bulls' 3-2 win over Stockport at Edgeley Park, said: It's another big game for us. The Birmingham game was another big one and at Leeds the ground is a 40,000 capacity and they do very well for fans.
"It should be a very good atmosphere and we are just going to enjoy going up there to play our football."

The big FA Cup replay is just days away

After last week's 0-0 draw at Edgar Street the much talked about replay against Leeds takes place on Tuesday night with both sides going into the game on the back of narrow wins.
Leeds warmed up for the game with a 2-1 home win against Swindon Town at Elland Road. Following that win the side that started the season bottom of the league now lie 4th with 26 points, they would be 3 points clear at the top now had it not been for their deduction.
United also got a fine win as they overcame Stockport away 3-2. Lionel Ainsworth who received man of the match from Sky in the first encounter between United and Leeds grabbing all 3.

Hartlepool United eye Leeds cup tie

FORMER LEEDS MAN: Ian Moore

Hartlepool United striker Ian Moore will be keeping a close eye on his former team tomorrow night as Leeds take on Hereford in their FA Cup replay â€" with Pools set to face the winner in round two.
"We were on the bus coming back from Gainsborough when the draw was made and there was only a few teams left in it," Moore said.
"A few of us realised Leeds were still to come out and it is a great tie for us if that is how it works out.
"It would be great to go back to Leeds if they can get past Hereford."
West Yorkshire police has announced that the Leeds v Pools cup tie would be played on Sunday, December 2.

Elland Road buzz could be decisive

Dennis Wise is hoping the atmosphere at Elland Road will help Leeds see off Hereford in tomorrow night's FA Cup replay.
The winners will face a home second-round tie against Hartlepool and, if Leeds go through, the game will be on Sunday, December 2.
Wise said: "We know it is going to be difficult, because Hereford did very well against us at their place, but this is a different environment for them so we will see how they cope with it.
"Hereford was a strange place for us to go and the players were a bit tired after travelling to games at Carlisle and Bournemouth in the build-up. This is an important game for us and a money-spinner."

Wise is without suspended midfielders David Prutton and Jonathan Douglas so skipper Alan Thompson and on-loan Radostin Kishishev, both just back from injury, could come into the side.
Jamie Clapham is due to return to Wolves after this match and Wise also has to decide on Kishishev's future.
"Kish's loan period from Leicester is nearly up so I'll have to sit down with him to find out what he is thinking about his future," said Wise.
Bulgarian international Kishishev played for the final 29 minutes on Saturday.

Bulls ready for 'fortress' Leeds

Despite securing a well-earned draw at Edgar Street against League One high-flyers Leeds United, most pundits are forecasting an end to Hereford's cup ambitions in the first round replay tomorrow evening.
So, although the Bulls are in the middle of an excellent run of form themselves, Hereford find themselves in exactly their favoured position in cup-ties such as this...as unfancied underdogs, with nothing to lose.
That's certainly the view of United's manager Graham Turner who told the Hereford Times he is relishing the challenge:
'We now face a trip to Elland Road, arguably the biggest all-seater stadium the club has ever been to - around 40,000 capacity, I believe.
'We have had a good look at them, we have watched them on the video, and I know they had to make one or two changes for last Friday night's game.
'But there is nothing to be apprehensive about.
'They have got Elland Road like a fortress so far this season, the crowds have been out in numbers to support them and that makes a big difference to them.
'We have to firmly believe that we can beat them, because if we do not believe in ourselves then nobody else will.'
A potential match winner for the Bulls could be Lionel Ainsworth who again grabbed the headlines at the weekend with his second hat-trick of the season, as Hereford ran out 3-2 victors at Stockport.
However, United's progress this season has been based on excellent team spirit, discipline and commitment.
Indeed, thoroughly professional teamwork and fitness has been the key to a number of Hereford's away wins this season.
Turner feels Dennis Wise's side were somewhat fortunate to get a replay:
'We had a storming finish to the game and, in that period, we really should have finished Leeds off.
'I felt the game itself was decent entertainment. I have seen us pass the ball better, but better players close the ball down and deny space the higher up you go.'
Meanwhile Dennis Wise told the Yorkshire Post he's expecting his side to come out on top at Elland Road tomorrow evening:
'It's an important money-spinner for us and we will go out to try and win it.
'They did very well against us at Hereford, but this will be a very different environment for them.'

Douglas could make cup return
Midfielder Jonathan Douglas could return to the Leeds squad for their FA Cup first-round replay with Hereford at Elland Road.

Douglas withdrew from the Republic of Ireland squad over the weekend due to a hamstring injury, but could be passed fit for the clash.
If Douglas proves his fitness he will give manager Dennis Wise more options following the return of both skipper Alan Thompson (calf) and Radostin Kishishev (muscle strain) on Saturday.
Teenager Jonny Howson has been impressive in central midfield in Leeds' last three matches and may have done enough to secure himself an extended run in the starting line-up.
Wise must decide whether either one or both of Howson and David Prutton will make way for Douglas, Thompson or Kishishev.
Strikers Leon Constantine and Mark De Vries will be hoping to play bigger roles for Leeds, who were held to a goalless draw by Hereford at Edgar Street in the initial first round tie.

Inga vits i å kvile Howson i eit slikt oppgjer.
