Blir dette laget?

Casper
Fraze - Rui - Hunty (c) - Sheehan
Robbo - Prutts - Howson - Snoddy
Showunmi - Becks

                      Casper

Richardson  Marques Hunts(c)  Sheean

Robinson    Prutton(douglas) Howson  Johnson

              Enzo   Beckford

subs: Lucas, Snodegras, Michalik, Delph, Becchio

Spotlight on The Iron
The lowdown on Leeds United's first opponents - Scunthorpe United

The Gaffer
Nigel Adkins. Adkins is Scunthorpe's former physio and took on the manager's job after Brian Laws left to take charge of Sheffield Wednesday in 2006. Scunthorpe won the League One title at the end of his first season and fought hard to remain in the Championship last term, a battle which ended in failure. Yet, despite his initial success and the limited budget afforded him, a section of Scunthorpe's supporters remain sceptical about Adkins' suitability. The record of 26 wins and seven defeats produced during the 2006-07 League One campaign says otherwise, however.

The Danger
Izzy Iriekpen. Leeds were interested in signing the defender before he moved to Scunthorpe last year. Unfortunately for Adkins, he saw little of Iriekpen during the 2007-08 term as injury restricted the former Swansea player to 12 league starts and 18 appearances in all, but the Iron's form improved with him in their rearguard and survival might have been achieved had he remained fit throughout the campaign. Iriekpen does not offer much in the way of goals but Scunthorpe will see his performance as crucial to the outcome of tomorrow's game.

The Form
Adkins' players cannot be accused of surrendering without a fight last season, but their form â€" home and away â€" left much to be desired. Scunthorpe won 11 games over the course of the Championship term â€" four outside Glanford Park â€" and averaged exactly a goal a game, but the club are likely to be more of a force in League One. It is difficult to read much into pre-season fixtures and Scunthorpe's results during the summer have been mixed. Victories over Brigg Town and Grimsby Town have been countered by defeats to Rotherham United and Sheffield United but Adkins is making confident noises.

The Odds
When Scunthorpe won the League One title in 2007, only two teams claimed victories at Glanford Park. Leeds are therefore a short price tomorrow at 11-10 with William Hill, while 2-1 about the Iron seems generous. Hill's go 11-5 about the opening-day fixture ending in stalemate.

The Whistler
Lee Probert. Refereed Leeds three times last season, twice on the road at Cheltenham and Southend and the entertaining
3-2 victory over Carlisle in April. The Gloucestershire official limited himself to six bookings in those three matches and is not overzealous. In total last term he issued 82 cautions and three red cards but he has not been granted Select Group status this year.

Marching on together!

Regner også med dette laget.

Ben Parker dekker opp begge backer meget bra.

New boys to get Leeds start

LEEDS United are poised to give three close-season signings their debuts when the Coca-Cola One campaign kicks off tomorrow at Scunthorpe.
Andy Robinson, Robert Snodgrass and Enoch Showunmi are all in the squad to make the short trip to Glanford Park for the noon start to a season in which United’s fans’ expectations are high after last spring’s advance into the promotion play-offs.
Manager Gary McAllister is banking on a sound mix of know-how and youth to get the club off to a solid start this time around.
And he has been dealt a double boost in both qualities with seasoned midfielder David Prutton agreeing a one-year extension to his contract, while coltish goalkeeper Alan Martin has penned a new three-year deal.
After a productive pre-season programme, McAllister was eagerly looking forward to the opening clash, though as yet he has not decided who will lead the team out against The Iron.
Said McAllister, who will wait until just before kick-off tomorrow before revealing his captaincy choice: “I’ve got it sorted in my mind.
“I want 11 leaders in the team, though.”

Crosby: Leeds United opener will be a cracker

Andy Crosby

The last time that Leeds United's first game of a new season ended in defeat, Andy Crosby was a fresh-faced member of the youth training scheme at Elland Road.
Now 35, and in the twilight of his playing career, Crosby's job alongside that of Nigel Adkins tomorrow will be to confront an unbeaten record which is on the verge of surviving a second full decade. Since a 5-2 loss to Newcastle United in 1989, Leeds have never wavered in the opening exchange of an English campaign.
History is one of several indicators that Gary McAllister can draw confidence from before the 2008-09 League One campaign begins at Scunthorpe United this weekend.
In the 18 seasons following their defeat at St James' Park, Leeds have collected 11 victories and seven draws from the fixtures thrown at them at the start of their league schedules.
In fact, they have not dropped a point since 2003, when they drew 2-2 at home to Newcastle, and a win at Glanford Park tomorrow would be a convincing start to United's second year in League One.
A difficult visit to Tranmere Rovers kicked off their 2007-08 campaign and Scunthorpe represent no easier opposition. League One champions with an imperious record in 2007, Adkins and his assistant Crosby are as compelled as McAllister to ensure that their club operate at the acceptable end of the division over the coming nine months.
It is for that reason that Crosby expects a hell-for-leather contest tomorrow and a fitting start to the League One season, against a man he once took tips and inspiration from at Elland Road.
"Gary was a major player for Leeds when I was a YT kid, and it makes me feel quite old to think that we've both moved into management," said Crosby, who left Leeds for Doncaster Rovers as an 18-year-old in 1991.
"He's quite new to the Leeds job, but the fact that he's had a full summer to work with his squad is really important. You hear that said a lot but it does make a difference because he's now in a position where the players are totally tuned in to his style of management.
"Everybody is marking them out as favourites and I'd probably go along with that, but a lot of people expect Scunthorpe to be up there too. We've had a really positive summer and our squad's been strengthened so you'll see a very good contest tomorrow.
"Glanford Park's not an easy place for them to come to and Leeds United won't be an easy team to play anywhere.
It's the sort of game you want to start the season with."
Scunthorpe won League One with 91 points in 2007, the same tally as Leeds accumulated last season, but while McAllister's job is to build on his side's play-off final appearance, Adkins is planning a recovery in the wake of relegation from the Championship.
The pre-season talk has been of the pressure automatically placed upon McAllister and his players, but Adkins is not free from high standards.
To the amazement of Crosby and to many beyond Glanford Park, Adkins has been the subject of mumbled criticism in Scunthorpe, despite taking the club into the Championship for the first time since 1964. The 43-year-old was the Iron's physiotherapist before he became their boss, and he and McAllister are part of a youthful managerial brigade in League One boasting an average age of 45. Crosby himself is only 35, a year younger than Darren Ferguson and Paul Trollope, the managers of Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers respectively.
Crosby said: "I can't understand why there's any negativity about the gaffer. He was God when we went up from League One and he deserved all the praise he got.
"He's one of quite a few up-and-coming managers in this league.
"I guess you can be a victim of your own success and being in the Championship brought more expectation. But we probably had the smallest budget in the division and we very nearly stayed up. To criticise the manager for that is completely unfair.
"But if people expect big things then I hope we can win this league again and get back into the Championship straight away. Then, if we win that division, we can have a go at the Premiership and the Champions League.
"That might get people off the gaffer's back!
"I think every club needs to be realistic, and every manager needs a bit of trust and patience. You didn't see Leeds doing anything stupid after losing the play-off final and I know that Gary will make them a serious force. Of course the pressure is on them, but they've got players who can handle it.
"It was the same when I was a YT player there. You'd watch guys like Gary and Gordon Strachan and see players with composure and quality. I doubt there was a single kid at Elland Road who didn't learn from them. Their influence was massive.
"When it dawns on you now that you've both seen the best of your playing days, it makes you realise how important it is to make the most of every opportunity you get. When you're 19 or 20 you think your career will go on for ever. Then, all of a sudden, you're on the touchline and working as a coach. It goes in a flash."
Crosby is still registered as a professional but will play no part tomorrow because of tendonitis in a knee and has branched into management by establishing himself at Adkins' assistant.
Glanford Park is expected to sell out this weekend, and Adkins like so many managers will urge his players to draw inspiration from their support.
But Leeds lost a only five fixtures away from home last term and did not rely on results at Elland Road to clear their way to the play-offs.
“Tomorrow’s the biggest game of our season, and it’s a good fixture for both clubs,” Crosby said.
“We’ll be looking to beat the favourites and they’ll be looking to get off to a flyer away from home. Even for the neutral it’s a cracking game.”

Scunthorpe United vs Leeds United

Nigel Adkins looks set to throw rookie goalkeeper Josh Lillis in at the deep end as regular no. 1 Joe Murphy is sidelined with a groin injury.
The Iron begin life back in the third tier of English football at home to promotion-tipped Leeds United and manager Adkins looks to be without Joe Wilcox and Andy Crosby who both have knee injuries.
Scunthorpe are boosted by the news that Ben May and new signings Gary Hooper and Garry Thompson have all recovered from injury to start against Leeds.
With Adkins likely to give debuts to Hooper and Thompson it is also likely that fellow new-boys Michael Lea and Kenny Milne could feature against Gary McAllister's men.
