In the last article I wrote, I described Leeds United as being hooked up to a life support machine, with the fans having almost no hope left to draw upon. The future couldn’t have looked bleaker.
Then, a lifeline. Rumours of a potential takeover quickly turned into reality, with the club confirming that they were speaking to several parties about ‘investment’ in regards to the long term future of Leeds.
It felt like Christmas eve used to do when you were a child.
We aren’t always pessimistic, but using the word ‘takeover’ in the same breath as Leeds United could almost be classed as brave.
With so many rumours in the past proving fruitless it has even inspired the fans to create a new term, TOMA. That means – Take over my, well, I’ll let you work out what word the A stands for.
However, this potential takeover is very real, with sources suggesting that the US bidders are hoping to push through a deal as soon as possible as they are keen to begin making transfers. This is music to any Leeds fans ears, after enduring year after year of pre season coming and going with little or no investment, we could finally be seeing things change for the better.
The next few weeks will tell us everything, with a new investor we could see Neil Warnock create a team capable of completing the return to the Premier League that we all hope for, though on the flipside, if the takeover negotiations come to nothing we’ll all be left feeling flatter than ever before. If that were to happen, it may be the final nail in the coffin and time to switch the life support machine off.
Looking at the latest transfer rumours it appears that the club are still on the hunt for players, despite recently being unable to complete a move for Joel Ward.
The latest name linked to Elland Road is Lee Peltier, with both Leeds and Huddersfield interested. The newly promoted teams fans rate their chances of signing Peltier highly, with some stating how it’ll be the first of three victories over Leeds this season.
This overconfidence will come as a surprise, as Huddersfield fans have always been extremely modest and have barely even acknowledged their cup finals, sorry, games with us in the past. Nevertheless, maybe if we all just ‘believe’ Peltier could end up a Leeds player after all.
I hope the next article I write will be all about our new owners and the bright future we have in front of us. If you’re reading this it’s because you’re passionate about Leeds United. I don’t know you personally, but I know that you, me and every other Leeds fan deserves better than the hell we’ve had over the last few years.
If this week is our turning point, the week we start again, I hope you’re sitting down when the news gets to you. You’ll either fall over or jump up punching the air.
IF this really is our week, enjoy it!
