TAYLOR FEARS LEEDS LEAK 'WITCH-HUNT'
Players union boss Gordon Taylor fears a "witch-hunt" following claims that an unnamed Leeds player leaked team news to Crystal Palace ahead of yesterday's Coca-Cola Championship clash.
Furious Leeds manager Dennis Wise refused to identify the player, who he claimed had provided Palace with his starting line-up at lunchtime yesterday.
But Wise vowed the mystery Leeds player would never play for the club again after the struggling Yorkshire club's crucial win at Elland Road.
Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Taylor told PA Sport: "The problem now is that there will be a witch-hunt by the media, it's really too sensitive to comment until there's been a proper inquiry.
"Experience tells me to be very careful and not to jump to conclusions until we know exactly what has happened.
"The player in question will be castigated for something he might or might not have done and there might be a perfectly innocent way this information has been passed on.
"We have already started speaking to people concerned and will be checking to find out exactly what has taken place and only then can we comment further.
"These are very serious accusations. It will impact very badly on the player in question.
"Sooner or later Leeds are going to have to justify their decision because that would be constructive dismissal."
Leeds kept a toe-hold in the Championship with a 2-1 win but a much-improved display was overshadowed by Wise's post-match revelations.
"It was a fantastic result for us, but unfortunately I'm very disappointed," Wise said. "One player gave my team to the opposition at my football club and I found that out.
"It disappoints me immensely and I told the players before, and he won't be playing for this football club again. It's as simple as that because I can't have that.
"This is what you sometimes have to deal with. That player's not going to play for this football club.
"I spoke to the players and it hurts a lot and they responded for me and I'm chuffed to bits with them.
"Also, the player in question said a couple of other things and it's not acceptable.
"I found this out today, about 1pm. I don't want to go into it any more, but it's only right to say something about something as disappointing as that."
