Kjent Quakers-fjes

Quakers move for Bridges

Penney hopes to land Bridges on loan
Darlington have launched a fresh bid to land former Leeds and Sunderland striker Michael Bridges.
The Quakers attempted to sign Bridges from Carlisle last summer, but the 29-year-old decided to join Hull City instead.
Now the Championship club have made Bridges available on loan and Darlington boss Dave Penney has made his interest known.
Penney told The Northern Echo: "A circular has gone out to clubs letting everyone know that he (Bridges) is available on loan so we have made an enquiry, like most other teams I would think.
"That's as far as it has gone."
Penney is desperate for more strike power with Pawel Abbott currently sidelined with a knee injury and Ian Harty granted leave to deal with 'personal problems'.

Kamp 6/10:

Dag & Red v Darlington:
(Dag & Red 7/4, Draw 11/5, Darlington 13/10)
Dagenham are looking for their third straight win, but will have to do so without Jon Boardman, Magnus Okuongh, Paul Benson, Richard Graham, Jon Nurse and Lee Goodwin - who are all still unavailable.
Pawel Abbott is sidelined for Darlington after injuring his knee in the warm-up against Peterborough last weekend. The Quakers will also be without Neil Austin (ankle) and goalkeeper David Stockdale, who is expected to return to training next week following injury.

Kamp 6/10:

QUAKERS OUTDO DAGGERS
Darlington's superior finishing saw them end Dagenham's unbeaten home record with a comprehensive 3-0 win.

The Quakers took the lead on the stroke of half-time when captain Stephen Foster volleyed Clark Keltie's free-kick into the roof of the net.
The visitors grabbed a two-goal buffer midway through the second half when the evergreen Julian Joachim left Scott Griffiths for dead and his cross was slammed home by Gregg Blundell.
Tommy Wright then completed the victory, exchanging passes with Michael Cummins before slotting home.
It could have been more but Griffiths produced an amazing goal-line clearance to deny Foster a second goal.
The home side struggled to get into the game, with a Sam Saunders drive well saved by Andy Oakes and Ben Strevens' overhead volley which flashed wide, their best efforts.

Dagenham & Redbridge 0 Darlington 3

Match report from the afternoon away win versus Dagenham & Redbridge

Darlington turned in their most impressive performance of the season as Dagenham crashed to their first home defeat of the campaign.
The Daggers, looking for their third consecutive win, had the better of the opening exchanges and, but for brave defending from the visitors, could have gone ahead as Sam Saunders and Chris Moore both saw goal-bound shots brilliantly blocked.
The visitors nearly opened the scoring with ten minutes of the half remaining when a diagonal ball played in from the left by Clark Keltie was headed back by Julian Joachim into the path of Greg Blundell and, as Tony Roberts in the home goal came rushing out to clear, Blundell managed to poke the ball past him only for captain Anwar Uddin to clear the ball off the line.
Dagenham responded with a superb free-kick from Moore which clipped the roof of the net.
However, they went into the break behind when deep into first-half stoppage time, Keltie's free-kick wasn't properly cleared and, as it fell to captain Stephen Foster, he produced a stunning volley which gave Roberts no chance.
They should have doubled their leader only for two goalline clearances to prevent them.
First, Blundell's far-post header from Joachim's cross was blocked by Uddin, before Scott Griffiths somehow managed to clear Foster's angled drive.
Saunders then tested Andy Oakes with a fierce drive that the keeper turned away just moments before the Quakers doubled their lead.
Joachim claimed the assist as he darted down the right wing and picked out Blundell, who, when unmarked in the centre of the box, had time to control before lashing the ball home.
The points were made safe eight minutes from time when Foster picked out Wright and he showed great composure in lifting the ball over Roberts to make it three.

berlin

Madden avlaster Frazer.

Trophy Changes

Dennis Wise will make wholesale changes to the side for tomorrow night's Johnstone's Paints tie at Darlington.
"We have a massive home game against Leyton Orient on Saturday so there will be new faces in the game at Darlington," Wise said.
I don't look to make many changes in the league but it's good to have competition for places and this will be an opportunity for some of the players on the fringe of the team.
"Alan Thompson will have a run-out too. I left him out against Yeovil because he has only trained for ten days out of 28 and looks a bit off the pace."
Asked whether he wants to win the Trophy, Wise answered: "I am taking the league very seriously."
Portuguese winger Filipe Da Costa, who only received international clearance from FIFA last week and was an unused substitute against Yeovil, could make his debut at Darlington.
But Jonathan Douglas misses the trip and the visit of Orient on Saturday because he is on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Da Costa set for Leeds debut
Portuguese winger Filipe Da Costa could make his debut for Leeds in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash at Darlington on Tuesday.
Da Costa joined Leeds at the beginning of last month but has been unable to play due to a contractual dispute with Greek club Ionikis.
The 23-year-old was provisionally registered by the Football Association in time to be included in the squad for Saturday's home win over Yeovil, but he stayed on the bench.
Dennis Wise faces several selection dilemmas but could opt to rest a number of key players for the northern section second-round tie.
Loan strikers Mark De Vries and Wayne Andrews are both available, while Tore Andre Flo will hope to get more match action under his belt as he works his way back from a long-term foot injury.
Youngsters Jonny Howson, Robert Bayly, Scott Gardner and Ben Parker could all come into the reckoning.

Green poised to make Darlo switch
Cardiff striker Matt Green is set to join League Two side Darlington on a month's loan in a bid to gain more regular first-team football.
City have revealed he will link up with the Quakers ahead of Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round game against Leeds.
Bath-born Green, 20, joined Cardiff from Newport County for an undisclosed fee in January 2007.
He made six league appearances as a substitute last season and appeared in City's Carling Cup game against Brighton.
Cardiff will hope the youngster can gain valuable first team experience in Dave Penney's side.

We've got a real battle for a shirt

Dennis Wise is overseeing an intense fight for places at Leeds United after admitting the club's form is preventing him from sharing the workload.
United's manager kept his team alterations to a minimum as Leeds went through the first two months of the League One season without a defeat, but the pressure on Wise to offer chances to his fringe players is growing amid a competitive atmosphere at the club's training ground.
Wise saw Ian Westlake score an injury-time winner against Oldham on Tuesday night, minutes after appearing as a substitute, and Wayne Andrews and Mark De Vries also contributed to a crucial victory at Boundary Park having moved to Elland Road on loan the previous morning.
But all three players were in line to return to the bench for yesterday's clash with Yeovil Town, and Wise admitted United's run to within touching distance of a place in the top six was preventing him from altering his selection policy.
Wise said: "This is what you expect and what you want from people â€" to put me under pressure. It's good. I want all the players to do well so I have a problem.
"I know there are a few players itching to get into the team but because of the run we've gone on it's been difficult.
"If you look at where (Westlake) plays, he's got to push Seb Carole out of the equation. It's about individual battles. All the players get on very well, but they've got to battle with each other to get into the team.
"They all want to play and I understand that, and it's a bit frustrating for some of them."
The size of United's squad at the start of the season suggested Wise was more likely to be troubled by a shortage of players rather than a surplus but, having signed De Vries and Andrews on loan from Leicester and Coventry respectively this week, he is now in possession of satisfactory cover in almost every position.
The switch of Andrew Hughes from central midfield to left-back at Oldham left no place for Jamie Clapham, and Paul Huntington is one of several players who is yet to receive a serious opportunity in Wise's first-team.
The former Newcastle centre-back, who moved to Leeds at the end of August, may be handed his full debut during United's Johnstone's Paint Trophy second-round tie at Darlington on Tuesday evening, but he has so far been trapped behind the consistent pairing of Manuel Rui Marques and Matt Heath.
United's defensive performance was the highlight of their victory at Oldham, even after Westlake's brilliant volley at the death, and Wise said: "The pleasing part was the solidness of the team.
"It was another clean sheet, and the back four and the midfield have gelled very well. They're compact and they don't allow too many chances for the opposition."There's a lot more to (League One) than just playing pretty football. Sometimes it's hustle and bustle, and sometimes you have to turn people. It's doing the right things at the right time.

Thompson all set for Leeds United comeback

DENNIS Wise will look to rekindle the fire in Alan Thompson by sending Leeds United's captain into tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Darlington.
Alan ThompsonThe former Celtic midfielder is set to be the surprise inclusion in United's line-up this evening after concerns over his fitness saw him omitted from Saturday's 1-0 victory over Yeovil Town at Elland Road.
Thompson missed four matches last month after suffering a groin strain, and the 33-year-old looked jaded on his return to Wise's starting line-up at Oldham last Tuesday.
United's boss revealed that his captain had completed less than a fortnight's training during the past month, and Thompson was sent for a additional fitness work over the weekend as Leeds were preparing for their meeting with Yeovil.
But Thompson is set to feature tonight during United's first ever appearance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, and Wise is hoping the run-out will edge the midfielder closer to a complete recovery.
Wise said: "I've spoken to Thommo about the situation. Unfortunately he's trained for 10 days out of 28, and he looks a little bit off the pace. He knows that. He played on Tuesday after being out for a long time, and to play again on Saturday was a little bit too close. I think he understood where I was coming from.
"He looked very tired and very worn out (against Oldham). Unfortunately he's been out for a couple of weeks, and as you get older that takes its toll.
"We need to get him back up to the level he was at four or five weeks ago."
The Johnstone's Paint Trophy is low on Wise's list of priorities and his line-up tonight will be named with Saturday's league clash with Leyton Orient in mind.
But Thompson's involvement and the inclusion of a number of players with senior experience should give United a strong chance of reaching the last eight of the Northern Section tonight.
Wise's players are entering the competition in the second round, with only four games away from an appearance in the final at Wembley.
Rovers lifted the trophy last season, but Wise will not risk damage to United's League One campaign by committing himself too heavily to the Football League's knockout tournament.
