Kamp 24/11:

Two missing for Donny clash

Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott will be without Richard Walker and Robin Hulbert when his team take on Doncaster at Vale Park.
Sinnott has yet to taste victory in League One since he took over the Valiants hot-seat and his cause will not be aided by the absence of defender Walker who is a long-term absentee with a knee injury.
Hulbert will be given the maximum amount of time needed to recover from his Achilles injury but could well come into contention next weekend.
Meanwhile, deadline day loan signing Mark Salmon could go straight into Sinnott's squad after joining from Wolves but he will be without fellow midfielder Shane Tudor who completed his temporary move to Shrewsbury earlier in the week.
"We've shown signs of improvement over the last three games and it's very important we continue in that same vein but those improvement signs have got to be turned into points on the board," said Sinnott.

Port Vale v Doncaster preview

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll has said this week that his Rovers side are the best in the division; on Saturday they set out to prove it against Port Vale.
Their new boss Lee Sinnott will be without Richard Walker and Robin Hulbert.

Rovers must choose between defenders Steve Roberts and Gordon Greer for the clash at Port Vale.
Gareth Roberts remains sidelined following surgery to resolve a double hernia problem and Roberts and Greer are vying for a starting place alongside Adam Lockwood due to Matt Mills' injury.
Mills has been forced to cut his loan spell short after tearing a knee cartilage and will be out of action for up to six weeks so has returned to Manchester City for treatment.
Rovers manager O'Driscoll has no other new injury or suspension problems to consider.
Paul Heffernan, James Hayter, Mark McCammon and Lewis Guy are all in contention for starting places up front.
Goalkeeper Ben Smith and defender Sam Hird have been sent out on loan to Lincoln and Grimsby respectively.

Doncaster 6/4, Port Vale 6/4, Draw 11/5

Vale capture Salmon
Wolves youngster joins on loan
Port Vale have brought in Mark Salmon on loan until January from Wolves.
Salmon has yet to make a first-team appearance for Wolves, but will be in the Vale squad for the weekend's League One game with Doncaster Rovers.
The midfielder was taken aback by the timing of the move, but concedes he had been hoping to be allowed out on loan by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.
"I only found out today when I had a call from the gaffer saying I was wanted at Port Vale and it came as a bit of a shock really," Salmon told the club's official website.
"I was hoping to go out on loan after Christmas anyway to get some first-team experience under my belt, but this has come out of the blue.
"My long-term aim is to break into the first team at Wolves and I hope the experience I gain at Port Vale will help me do that."
Meanwhile, Vale manager Lee Sinnott has loaned out young centre-half Charlie O'Loughlin to Nantwich Town for a month.

Port Vale 1-3 Doncaster

Doncaster enhanced their promotion aspirations with a win over Port Vale.
Vale skipper George Pilkington opened the scoring as he took advantage of a dithering Rovers defence to hook a left-foot shot beyond Neil Sullivan.
Lewis Guy equalised with a header as Doncaster and James Hayter seized on a slip by Ashley Westwood to charge clear and net his eighth goal of the season.
Another Vale defensive clanger, this time by Mark McGregor, allowed Richie Wellens to drive in a Rovers third.

Port Vale: Anyon, McGregor, Westwood, Pilkington, Talbot, Harsley (Richards 80), Laird (Salmon 87), Rocastle, Whitaker, Rodgers, Willock (Edwards 69).
Subs Not Used: Goodlad, McGoldrick.
Goals: Pilkington 10.

Doncaster: Sullivan, O'Connor, Lockwood, Greer, McDaid, Wilson (Woods 74), Stock, Wellens, Heffernan (Coppinger 34), Hayter, Guy (Stephen Roberts 82).
Subs Not Used: McCammon, Nelthorpe.
Goals: Guy 59, Hayter 68, Wellens 81.

Uhell skjer iblant...

The only way is up!

Homework done on Scholars - Lee
Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott insists he "knows what to expect" from Chasetown in their FA Cup second-round clash at Vale Park on Sunday.
Four-and-a-half years ago, Sinnott was masterminding Farsley Celtic's rise through the non-league ranks and was managing at the equivalent level to which the Scholars currently occupy.
Now taking on his first FA Cup campaign as Vale manager, he will be wary of the British Gas Business Division One Midlands outfit when they come to town in the second round.
He told the club's official website: "I know what to expect against Chasetown.
"We have observed them. Four separate people have watched them so we know about their players just as they know about ours.
"Just like any other game, it is up to us to instil our game plan. To dictate what goes on in the 90 minutes in our favour, not the other way around."

Time for midfield to help out in the scoring stakes

By Peter Lorimer
Talking Soccer

The blip! We've all faced it and gone through it at one time and another and Leeds United are having to cope with theirs now.
It's whether these setbacks make you bigger and stronger or send you into a spiral of destruction that counts and let's hope the lads have taken on board all the lessons learned from a run of four defeats in seven outings.
The latest aberration came at Cheltenham last Sunday in a match which everybody expected Leeds to win against a side propping up League One.
Despite being all over them like a rash, with no fewer than 21 efforts on goal, we contrived a defeat from the jaws of victory.
One or two things are becoming apparent. Unless our strike force of Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol are hitting the target the likelihood is that we won't score at all, and this is because too few goals are coming from midfield.
Any successful team boasts an engine room that is weighing in with its share of goals – Paul Scholes at Manchester United, Steve Gerrard at Liverpool and Frank Lampard at Chelsea readily spring to mind – but too little a contribution is being made in that department at Leeds.
Dennis Wise will relate to and be frustrated by this. As a midfielder of some substance himself, he always rattled in a few every season to top up the goals for column for his sides.
I would personally expect a total of 30 goals to come from four midfielders in the course of a campaign and this is where we are falling woefully short.
Leeds can't expect the full weight of the goalscoring responsibility to fall on the shoulders of Beckford and Kandol.
Lately they've suffered from a lack of quality balls into the area anyway and have had to go looking for their own opportunities.
What Dennis will be looking for from the team now is a more clinical approach to goalscoring; one in which that final pass is deadly. Leeds must have spent more time in the final third of the pitch than any other team in the division, but it's always the end product that counts.
Cheltenham were a rather poor side who I think will be relegated, so to concede all three points to them was a disappointment.
With ruthlessness in their game, Leeds would have walked it and they can't afford too many repeats of that if promotion is to become a possibility.

There are two equally appetising fixtures at home to Port Vale and Huddersfield upcoming and the recovery process needs to get underway with maximum points from these outings.
It's a fiercely competitive division and, as if the 15 point deduction were not enough, Leeds cannot afford to be charitable.
Talking of that penalty, Leeds fans should be grateful that they have a chairman who is prepared to fight until the bitter end for it to be overturned.
There is still a sense of injustice within the club and it is in typical Ken Bates fashion that he will not let the matter drop until there is, in his eyes, a satisfactory conclusion.

It's a pity that Leeds will not be in the hat for the FA Cup third round draw on Sunday afternoon.
That’s one of the great pieces of excitement in the course of a season and what has happened this year will provide a good local quiz question for years to come: When did Harrogate Railway go further in the FA Cup than Leeds?
Good luck to Rail, incidentally, in their televised tie against Mansfield. Their visitors are having all kinds of trouble and this is a very winnable game for them. I’ve played on their pitch a few times down the years and I can tell you that, with the sideways slope, Mansfield are going to have a real eye-opener.

Kamp 1/12:

Port Vale  1   -  Rodgers 18
Chasetown  1  -   Branch 44
(HT 1 - 1)
Att: 5875

Minnows stand up to stun Vale
Non-league minnows Chasetown clinched a richly-deserved FA Cup replay with struggling Port Vale by securing a 1-1 draw at Vale Park.

Branch: Swamped by team-mates

Luke Rodgers handed the League One strugglers an 18th-minute lead but the plucky visitors hit back on the stroke of half-time through Mark Branch.
Despite a flurry of late chances, Vale failed to find the net again and left the field to a chorus of boos from disgruntled supporters.
The final whistle, meanwhile, sparked wild celebrations for the Chasetown contingent, with manager Charlie Blakemore sprinting on to the field to celebrate with his players.
Blakemore's men could have taken the lead after six minutes but Dean Perrow missed from close range after latching onto a flick-on from strike partner Kyle Perry. Vale's early nerves should have been calmed when Rodgers smashed in a 25-yard free-kick after John Branch had been penalised for upending Calum Willock.
But Chasetown hit back when Mark Branch's 40-yard free-kick eluded everyone and sneaked past goalkeeper Joe Anyon. Vaughan Thomas headed wide after the restart as Chasetown chased a winner while Ashley Westwood went close for Vale with a late headed effort.

Port Vale: 12 Anyon, 2 Pilkington, 15 Miller, 20 Westwood, 3 Talbot, 17 Rocastle, 14 Whitaker, 11 Edwards, 39 Laird, 10 Rodgers, 24 Willock.
On The Bench: 1 Goodlad, 16 McGregor, 28 Glover, 8 Harsley, 28 Salmon.

Sinnott has no time for excuses
Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott has revealed he feels "insulted" by the club's position at the foot of League One and intends to change it around.

Sinnott: Taking it personally

The former Farsley Celtic manager was appointed as Martin Foyle's successor three weeks ago and has presided over two defeats, a win and a draw as Vale have slipped to four points from safety.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: "I find it a personal insult we are bottom of the league.
"I don't want a honeymoon period. If you are classed as being in a honeymoon period then your mistakes are being excused.
"Well we haven't got time to make mistakes; we've only got time to address mistakes."

United need Ankergren to face Vale

Leeds are hopeful that Danish international goalkeeper Casper Ankergren will recover from a knee injury in time to face Lee Sinnott's Port Vale at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Ankergren missed the defeat at Cheltenham on November 25 after needing 17 stitches in a wound sustained in the first half of the home FA Cup first-round replay against Hereford.
His deputy, David Lucas, injured his neck in the build-up to Cheltenham's goal and is not yet fully fit so it is vital that Ankergren recovers in time to face rock-bottom Vale, who last month put former Farsley Celtic boss Sinnott in charge.
It will be a massive match for former Bradford defender Sinnott, whose men could only draw with non-league Chasetown in the FA Cup action today.
If he could save Vale from relegation this season it would be another big plus on Sinnott's impressive CV after he guided Farsley to three promotions in four seasons.

Leon Constantine is again expected to be missing for United with a toe injury but Tore Andre Flo could play some part after making his comeback with a substitute appearance against Cheltenham.
Flo said: "We created enough chances at Cheltenham but didn't take them. We played well and they scored just before the end from one of their very few chances, so we are still in good spirits and confidence is high."

Leeds United midfield bolstered for Port Vale

Kishishev back in the frame for Port Vale

Dennis Wise's pool of midfielders will be back to full strength as Leeds United attempt to recover from their disappointing defeat to Cheltenham Town tomorrow night.

United are hoping to avoid a goalkeeping crisis ahead of Port Vale's visit to Elland Road, but Wise should have a full quota of midfielders to select from as Leeds begin the build-up to Christmas.
Alan Thompson and Radostin Kishishev are competing for starting places after featuring for United's reserves last week, and Filipe Da Costa is available again at the end of his three-match ban.
Sebastien Carole is a slight doubt with a twisted ankle sustained in training, but the Frenchman is working to recover his fitness in time to face struggling Vale.
Lee Sinnott's side are bottom of League One despite Luton Town's recent 10-point deduction, and were held to a 1-1 draw by non-league Chasetown in the second round of the FA Cup yesterday.

United will look to deepen Vale's problems by responding to their 1-0 defeat at Whaddon Road last weekend with a 14th league win, and assistant boss Dave Bassett said: "The Cheltenham defeat was extremely disappointing.
"We were stung by a late goal and we all left wondering how we'd lost the game. But we've got players coming back now, and Kishishev and Thompson are in decent shape. The run-out with the reserves has done them good."
United were assessing their goalkeeping situation today with Casper Ankergren and David Lucas both expected to train.
Ankergren is close to recovering from the gashed knee which forced him to miss the Cheltenham defeat, and Lucas is looking to shrug off a neck problem.
Mark De Vries will miss the Port Vale game due to illness.

Leeds boss Dennis Wise is hopeful that Casper Ankergren will recover from a knee injury in time to face Port Vale at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
The Danish keeper missed the 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham last time out after needing 17 stitches in a wound sustained in the first half of the FA Cup first-round replay against Hereford.
His deputy, David Lucas, injured his neck in the build-up to Cheltenham's late winner and is not yet fully fit so it is vital that Ankergren
recovers in time to face rock-bottom Vale, who last month appointed the former Farsley Celtic boss and Bradford defender Lee Sinnott as their new manager.
Sinnott and Vale will arive at Elland Road as the bottom club in League One with just 12 points on the board, having won just one game away from home this season. And the bad vibes at Vale Park intensified on Sunday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by non-League Chasetown in their FA Cup second-round tie.
Leon Constantine is again expected to be missing for United with a toe injury but Tore Andre Flo could play some part after making his comeback
with a substitute appearance at Whaddon Road.
Furthermore, the midfield appears to be back at full strength because Alan Thompson and Radostin Kishishev are competing for starting places after featuring for United's reserves last week, and Filipe Da Costa is available again following a three-match ban.
Sebastien Carole is a slight doubt with a twisted ankle sustained in training, but the Frenchman is working to recover his fitness in time to face the Staffordshire club.
Leeds will start the game in fifth but can climb no higher than fourth with all three points on Tuesday.

Dette er en kamp vi skal vinne. Mye! Blir særdeles skuffa hvis vi ikke vinner og spiller nærmest ball i hatt med Port Vale. På tide å legge downperioden bak seg og knuse PV.

Råtips: 5-1
