-----
United trial for Swedish striker
Leeds United have handed a trial to Sweden international Olof Guterstam.
The 25-year-old striker was invited to Thorp Arch following the conclusion of Sweden's domestic season, and he trained with United yesterday after flying in from IF Brommapojkarna.

Ingen riktig träning hos Leeds â€" då kan Guterstam hamna i Burnley

Tre dagar i Leeds, men ingen ordentlig träning.

Leeds 1st bid in Fox Hunt
Leeds have made a bid said to be in excess of £250,000 for left back and left midfielder Daniel Fox. However the club have said thanks but no thanks to the offer as Denis Wise searches for a left back.
No new Leeds bid for Fox
Promotion-chasing Leeds are playing a waiting game in their pursuit of Saddlers talented young defender Daniel Fox.
The Whites have had a bid worth potentially more than £250,000 turned down and they have not yet returned with an improved offer.
The League One giants have targeted the 21-year-old as they look to recruit a left-back during the January transfer window.
United boss Dennis Wise opened the bidding with an offer that could be worth more than £250,000 to the Saddlers if all of the clauses are invoked.
But Walsall have dismissed the first bid out of hand and are now waiting to see whether whether the Whites return to test their resolve further with an improved package.
Fox has been arguably the Saddlers’ most consistent player this season, especially since he reverted to his preferred left-back role following the knee injury to summer signing Paul Boertien.
Leeds hope to sign a new left-back with Walsall's Daniel Fox their top target. (News of the World)

Leeds target off to Colchester United?

Second offer in, more to follow
A quick glance at the team sheets against Swindon Town showed one absentee. Transfer listed Daniel Fox was asked to stay away for the game because Walsall have accepted an offer from Championship strugglers Colchester United.
Fox is now headed for contract talks will be made early next week.
Fox still lives in Cheshire and commutes down the M6.  Obviously this will not be possible to Colchester so would require him to move.  Given his ambition to play at a higher level and Colchester's 24th Championship placing you have to think would he make the switch?

Wise er her for å bygge sitt Leeds United.

B'ham tok overraskende poeng i helga, S'land vant over P'mouth, mens dumperival Wigan slo nettopp Derby borte.

Savner uttalelser fra the man in the spotlight!
Marching on together!

Wise rejects Beckford Derby transfer

Staying put: Jermain Beckford

Dennis Wise has reiterated his intention to reject any interest in Jermaine Beckford this month after denying claims that Derby County have tabled an offer for the Leeds United forward.
Wise has not received a single bid for any of his players â€" Beckford included â€" since the transfer window opened on January 1, and he will refuse to entertain approaches for his leading striker, who has scored 15 goals this season.
Beckford's strike-rate has established him as League One's top scorer, and rumours that Derby were preparing to bid £3million for the 24-year-old have grown in strength since the turn of the year.
Sources at Pride Park denied that Beckford was a target for the Premiership club when contacted by the YEP, but Wise has moved to quell the speculation further by insisting Beckford would be leaving a "bigger club" by moving from Leeds to Derby.
United's manager said: "Derby haven't put in an enquiry. There's been no bid and no enquiry.
"If I'm being totally honest, why would you want to go from Leeds to Derby? Why would Jermaine want to do that? This is a much bigger club than Derby.
"I understand where they are at the moment and where we are, but I don't think I'd let him go to Derby.
"I've been in this job for just over a year, and there are places where this football club would like to go. We need to get out of this division, and then get out of the next one as quickly as possible. Those are our ambitions.
"It would be no good to me to sell Jermaine Beckford. I might as well pack my bags and go home.
"Last year we had an offer for Becks from Scunthorpe for £75,000. Some silly managers might have taken it."
Leeds rejected Scunthorpe's offer after Beckford completed a successful loan at Glanford Park towards the end of last season, but the ex-Wealdstone ace has been a central figure in Wise's first team this term.
Wise was so impressed by Beckford's performances and attitude that he initiated contract talks with him and Tresor Kandol in September, little over a month into the new season. Beckford quickly agreed a revised three-year deal, tying him to Elland Road until the end of the 2009-10 season.
The forward appears to be the most financially valuable player in Wise's squad and is also the most likely to attract outside interest before the transfer window closes on January 31. But United's manager revealed that he had already turned away a number of tentative enquiries for his players, and hinted that he would continue to do so.
"I had one or two people ring up, and I've said no," said Wise. "But I've not had one offer."

"I'm looking to bring in Lubo and I also aim to bring in a loan striker. But after that I think my shopping's finished."

Ingen venstreback i bildet lenger?

Phil Hay's kommentarspalte i YEP:

Thrifty United no longer a soft touch

Unless your club is under a transfer embargo, as Leeds United were for most of last summer, close-season recruitment is not about speed.
Managers prefer to have the basis of their squad in place for the start of pre-season training, but most are pragmatic enough to accept that their interest in certain players will remain unanswered until August.
Football has become increasingly nomadic, and players are more adept than ever at switching from club to club.
As useful as it may be to give a group of professionals time to gel and acclimatise before the start of a season, it is not always essential. Over three summer months, the trick is to ensure that the necessary pool is in place for the opening league game.
But January is different, and the emphasis on quick and efficient business has been evident at Elland Road since the start of this month.
FIFA's system of transfer windows may be widely unpopular, and the nationwide scramble for new players seems more non-sensical every year, but it is an opportunity that only a few clubs can overlook.
United have not enjoyed that luxury, largely due to their quick exit from the comfort zone last month.
It seemed at the end of November that Dennis Wise would keep his activity and spending to a minimum during January, but December took a heavy toll. Jonathan Douglas was lost to injury, and Rui Marques was summoned to Africa's international extravaganza.
Combined with worsening results, the situation did not allow Wise to sit on his hands. Leeds required fresh blood during the transfer window, and the club deserve credit for their rapid rate of intake during the first 11 days. A deal was struck for Neil Kilkenny at precisely the moment when United needed a midfielder of his ilk, and three other players have followed the Australian to Elland Road this week.
It is not only the speed of negotiations which is to be applauded but the fact that Leeds, in the majority cases, have avoided any unnecessary haggling over transfer fees.
The Elland Road club cannot be accused of failing to put their hand in their pocket. Kilkenny arrived at a cost of £150,000, and Leeds paid in the region of £250,000 for Bradley Johnson.
Peter Sweeney is also thought to have commanded a fee, and Darren Kenton's loan from Leicester City appears to have been agreed with a view to a permanent deal.
It is easy to talk a good transfer window but targeting players is pointless unless clubs are prepared to pay the going rate.
United's board could easily have looked at their league position and asked Wise to move forward with the bare minimum of financial assistance this month, although the sizeable gate receipts at a club which is now classed as debt-free would have made a shortage of funds inexplicable.
But when this season ends, the club's supporters can be assured that the squad was not neglected.
Last January, the trail of free transfers that arrived at Elland Road was not sufficient to dig United out of the trouble they were in. Leeds appeared to be plugging holes in their dam, and relegation in hindsight was bound to follow.
The deals struck this month, in comparison, have been met with approval from most quarters, and are evidence that Wise's promise to reduce the average age of his squad is more than lip service.
United are still interested in Lubomir Michalik and Daniel Fox, and striking a deal for either player will be a more testing battle of persuasion with their respective clubs.
But the most revealing moment of the window so far was Leeds' refusal to bow to â€" or even consider agreeing to â€" the wage demands of Luton Town's Dean Morgan.
The winger has interested Wise for the best part of a year, but United's manager walked away quickly after the two sides found themselves at odds.
The word from the south is that Morgan's wages at Luton equate to around £4,000 a week, less than half the sum that Robbie Fowler once earned from Elland Road while playing for a different club.
As one agent said to me this week, Leeds United are not the soft financial touch they used to be.

Ternent hits back at Leeds
Derby coach admits interest in Beckford

Stan Ternent has hit back at Leeds after Dennis Wise questioned why Jermaine Beckford would want to join Derby.
The Rams are currently struggling in the Premier League while Leeds are pushing for promotion for League One.
Derby have been linked with a move for Beckford, but Wise rubbished the speculation by insisting that Leeds were the bigger club of the two.
Ternent, assistant manager at Pride Park, doubts whether Leeds are a bigger club than Derby.
He believes Beckford may be attracted to Derby by the prospect of playing at a higher level next season.
"Leeds are a big club with a fantastic following but Derby are a massive football club as well," Ternent told Sky Sports News.
"I would not like to say which is the bigger club, but certainly Derby are certainly in front of Leeds at the moment.
"They have had takeovers and been in admin, but Dennis has done very well there.
"Why would Beckford want to go to Derby? He might want to play in the Championship next year."

Han sa noe sånt som: "If I'd sell Beckford, I'd might as well pack up and go home."
