McAllister hoping to avoid need for shock therapy

Leeds United manager Gary McAllister

Leeds United v
Cheltenham Town

HAVING already lost to the relative minnows of Cheltenham Town this season, Leeds United are unlikely to need any reminder of football's unswerving ability to shock ahead of tonight's return game.
Nevertheless, after a weekend in which the romance returned to the game in spectacular fashion courtesy of the FA Cup, Gary McAllister has warned his players about the perils of under-estimating the opposition.
The United manager said: "Some of the results were amazing over the weekend.
"It started on the Friday with Swansea losing to Millwall (in League One). And I can't not give a mention to the Scotland boys after beating England in the rugby.
"There was also Queen of the South getting to the last four of the Scottish Cup, and the strange results here in England, to show us once again that football can go against the form book.
"Across our division, we have seen over and over again that teams near the bottom can cause an upset.
"We do not want to be caught up ourselves in any strange results."
United are in the middle of a potentially season-defining week with the visit of Keith Downing's side being the second of three games against clubs in the bottom five of League One.
Should Leeds, who are priced by SkyBet at 1-2 to win tonight, claim all three points against Cheltenham it could be enough to nudge McAllister's men back into the play-off places ahead of Saturday's trip to rock-bottom Port Vale.
He said: "I have watched most of the teams in our division and they all work very hard for each other.
"Cheltenham are also a well-organised team.
"I made it clear to the players (before Saturday's 2-0 win over Bournemouth) that we were coming into a very important week of the season against three teams in the lower reaches of the division.
"Coming through these three games unscathed is going to be important as to where we end up."
United will be mindful of the potential threat posed by Cheltenham with their trip to Whaddon Road last November ending in a 1-0 defeat.
At the time, it was only their second reverse of the season and although results dipped alarmingly in January and February, Leeds go into tonight's game just a point behind the play-off places thanks to back-to-back wins over Swindon Town and Bournemouth.
McAllister said: "There are still a lot of points to play for. (Leaders) Swansea and (second-placed) Doncaster have done well recently but we have to keep pushing on ourselves and hope for a slip-up by them."
The former Scotland international has been in charge of United since January and last week trimmed his squad by loaning out Ben Parker, Curtis Weston and Ian Westlake, while he also told Matt Heath he is free to look for a new club after not featuring since McAllister's first game in charge.
The Leeds chief said: "Matt is a player who has been very honest and I applaud him for his attitude.
"He was one ofthe five or six players who I sat down and said 'realistically, there are two or three guys ahead of you, so if you can find games on loan then I would be willing to look at that'.
"In the four or five weeks I have had to evaluate all sorts of things, the pleasing thing is I have seen four, five, six or even seven players starting to gather form. I am starting to know who my ideal XI would be.
"Also, during that time, I have whittled the squad down from 30 pros to a tighter unit of 18 or 19. I have made it a prestigious thing to be part of."
Tresor Kandol is available again tonight after recovering from a knee injury sustained in the weekend win over Bournemouth, so McAllister seems likely to name an unchanged line-up for the third consecutive game.

Last six games: Leeds United LLDDWW, Cheltenham Town DWLLDW.
Referee: C Oliver (Northumberland).
Last time: Never met.

Kandol United's only doubt

DOUBT: Kandol

Gary McAllister is expected to name an unchanged line-up for the second game running ahead of tonight's clash with Cheltenham Town at Elland Road.
The Leeds boss kept faith with the 11 players who set up the 1-0 victory at Swindon for Saturday's clash with Bournemouth, and is unlikely to alter a winning side this evening.
Tresor Kandol limped out of the 2-0 win over Bournemouth with a knee injury, but the problem is not serious and should clear up in time for the striker to retain his place.
McAllister said: "I've said to the players that the ones who have got two results on the bounce have got the jerseys.
"It's up to the others to try and get into the team. There's nice competition there."

Jonathan Douglas is McAllister's only absentee, and although the Republic of Ireland international has resumed training after a knee ligament injury, he is unlikely to be included against Cheltenham.
Leeds have no other selection concerns, and winger Sebastien Sorsa was due to rejoin McAllister's squad this week after a spell abroad with Finland's national team.
Tore Andre Flo, whose future at Leeds is in doubt, is not expected to feature tonight.

United: Ankergren, Kenton, Richardson, Marques, Michalik, Huntington, Heath, Sheehan, Prutton, Hughes, Howson, Kilkenny, Johnson, Thompson, Sweeney, Sorsa, Carole, Kandol, Beckford, Elding, Freedman, Lucas.

Sannsynlig lag [4-3-1-2]: Ankergren, Kenton - Marques - Michalik - Richardson, Prutton - Howson - Johnson, Kilkenny, Kandol - Beckford ;)

Peter7

Virker mest sannsynlig at Mac starter med de samme 11 som startet sist, med Freedman jo innpå her etter hvert - kanskje Hughes også (for Richardson).
Vi skulle aldri ha solgt Terry Cooper til Middlesboro'

Sheridan

Ingen "slip up" idag!

3 points og inn blant de 6!

Ja det er på tide å "karre" seg inn i play off igjen.
