LUFC Clean sheet for Lees in first England start
Leeds United defender Tom Lees made his first start for the England under 21 side in the friendly win over Northern Ireland at Blackpool.
Lees only returned to the Leeds side on Saturday as a substitute following an eye injury in the game at Brighton recently and he completed the 90 minutes.
The start was his third cap for England since making his debut against Norway in September.
England won 2-0 in the friendly, as they build up to the 2013 European under 21 championship finals in Israel.
England took the lead on the stroke of half time thanks to Sunderland striker Connor Wickham and they made sure of the win when Arsenal striker Benik Afobe, who is currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers, scored from the penalty spot with fifteen minutes remaining.
The win for England means Stuart Pearce`s side won all six of their games in 2012 and they have kept clean sheets in all of them. It is the first time in twenty-one years that the England under 21 side have won six in a row.
Lees will now return to Elland Road as the side prepare for their trip to Millwall on Sunday.
